One for the grooms…

When I meet with couples preparing for their wedding, one topic that often comes up that in the last 30-45 day stretch prior to the ceremony date things tend to be so tense, frustrating, and not always done with that sense of “happiness” that they normally feel with and for each other.

Grooms, this post is for you!  This is your time to shine.  Let’s face it, many of those trips shopping, meeting with vendors and making decisions you were would have been all too happy to stay home and cut the lawn or watched TV while your soon to be bride handled it herself.

This is your time to show her how much you genuinely appreciate all she has done and to show her how much she means to you.  It is your chance to bring the “happiness” back into her breath.  Plenty of people complain about romance being over-rated, but it often makes the difference between having a satisfied fiancée and one that is thrilled, so be sure to consider surprising her with one (or more!) of the following tips.

date night

Romance Her With Food-We all love to eat!  You can’t go wrong with something that is elegant, delicious and attractively plated. Anyone can buy chocolate covered strawberries, but remember that presentation is everything!  Place the chocolate covered strawberries on a white plate and drizzle them with a thin stream of dark or white chocolate. A little bit goes a long way!

Surprise Her-It is the little things that say a lot!  If you know that she’s going to be walking home from work or school, come pick her up without being asked.  Simply stop by work or school or home to drop her off a rose with a note that says I love you.  These little things show that she is on your mind.

Create Her Something-There are plenty of DIY books, magazines and shows that will help guide you to coming up with ideas.  Too many people don’t realize how talented they can be.  Think about what you are good at and then use your skills to come up with a gift.  Whether you are woodworker, a game designer, a knitter or a singer, you’ll find that there are things that you can do for her that no one else can. And remember, it does not have to be perfect.  It just has to come from the heart!

Kidnap Her-No, not ATeam style…  But, sweeping her off her feet and away from it all would help. Ask her to clear her schedule and to trust you. Take her off for an outing to a place that she didn’t expect, whether it is a camping trip, horseback riding, a new restaurant or just a walk by the lake. A small (or large!) change of scenery and routine is a fantastic choice to bring back the romance.  Consider an overnight stay at a local or regional Bed and Breakfast.

I love you notes stuck in her purse, in her car or in her laptop case all mean a lot.  It is about reminding each other on a regular basis that you each care and think about each other.  What will you do for your next project?

We can be the change we seek in this world, and in ourselves.  One day.  One journey.  One person.  One I love you moment at a time.
