Using your wedding as a platform for awareness and perhaps fundraising is something new and growing.  From animal rights, human rights, equality rights, ending hunger, and health related issues such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and many others.

Many couples are simply sharing information about topics that are very near and dear to them with their guests.  One couple is quoted as saying “For us it was a no brainer, we were surrounded by friends and family who already knew we were involved with animal rights, it was a natural fit.”

By having specific information on hand for each guest about the topic to actually spending time addressing the guests about what the cause meant to them are ways that couples are sharing more about themselves with their family and friends.

Some have turned the traditional clinking of glasses to get the couple to kiss into a fundraiser.  Instead of just randomly clinking the glasses you must add a $1.00 to the bucket in order to clink the glass…  One couple reportedly raised almost $500 for their charity!

Another couple announced that they were donating their money from the dollar dance to their charity.  They brought in over $1,000 for their cause.  You can incorporate your charity or awareness campaign with your theme to make it more fun and unique.

We live in the heartland with one of the strongest philanthropic communities in the nation.  I look forward to seeing this idea catching on in the heartland to benefit the many worthwhile organizations that couples believe in.  We can be the change we seek in this world… one wedding at a time!
